Mobile internet: is Germany losing contact?

With the introduction of the iPhone in Germany, it must have become appearent to everyone: the “mobile-internet” via cell phone has arrived in Germany. Although only approx. 70,000 devices have been sold, in terms of usabilty the iPhone sends a clear signal to the competitors. Via touchscreen and browser including zoom, almost any website can be read respectively navigated comfortably. The leading supplier of Advertisment (Admob) on mobile devices, publishes a statistic about the worldwide utilization of the internet on cell phones monthly. In their statistic’s february issue, Germany does not appear, just as in the previous months. As to be expected, the US took 1st place. Less to be expected were the overall placings in the overview:

1. Place 1: USA
2. Place 2: India
3. Place 3: South Africa
4. Place 4: Great Britain
5. Place 5: Indonesia
6. Place 6: Rumania

Germany is not even mentioned or seems to be insignificant in the utilization of the mobile internet. You can speculate over the reasons. One important and crucial reason seems to be the continuing high user fees. A flatrate hardly exists (Exception: T-Mobile with the iPhone).
